One of the debates at Challenge Cafe

Idea generation and open discussions at this year's Technology Conference

Tuesday 27 Nov 18

A new concept found its way to the DHRTC Technology Conference 2018: The Challenge Café. During two rounds, participants lively debated and discussed 12 different topics related to different aspects of the oil and gas sector.

The annual DHRTC Technology Conference took place on 12 and 13 November 2018. Over 270 participants joined the conference at Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers. As part of the desire to engage participants in active debates and discussions, two rounds of Challenge Cafés were included in the programme.

“The Challenge Café concept generally worked very well, and it helped to emphasize the desire DHRTC possesses to facilitate idea generation and open discussion”, states Mads Engberg Willumsen, Head of Department, Reservoir Geology at GEUS, who was one of the participants in the conference.

The Challenge Café consisted of 12 different tables, each with its own topic and coordinator. Participants rotated between the tables, making it possible to engage in several open discussions. The topics covered a wide range of themes, e.g. Farsund reservoir, abandonment and sustainability. You can see the list of the topics debated at the Challenge Café here.

“The purpose of the Challenge Café was to activate and engage all the participants, and to provide people with an opportunity to actively contribute to discussions across academic fields and experiences”, tells Karen Guldbæk Schmidt from DHRTC, one of the organizers behind the café.

Many of the great discussions led to concrete ideas which will be further developed in the future.
