A meeting that was supposted to be held at DTU Risø Campus was transferred to an online meeting with 61 participants. The meeting went well.

DTU Wind Energy played “host” to a Zoom online workshop yesterday. The meeting was jointly organized by EERA JP Wind &  SETWind. The focus of the workshop was on Multiscale modelling and validation of wind farm wakes. It addressed challenges related to investigating how wind farms influence the flow field inside and in the surroundings of the wind farm.

Originally the workshop was to be an all day event at Risø Campus. Due to the coronavirus crisis it was converted into an online workshop using Zoom. One of the organizers, Jake Badger said:

"We decided to keep the workshop, because we already had an exciting programme built up, and we didn’t want to miss out on that. We made it into an online event, but made it of shorter duration, in order to keep a good level of concentration. It did mean we missed out on informal discussions and networking but overall I think the content of the presentations was delivered very effectively.”

The programme included six speakers from Fraunhofer IWES, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, TNO, and DTU Wind Energy, and had 61 participants online using Zoom. Jake Badger adds:

“The technology worked fine. As well as screen sharing, we used the Zoom chat panel as a way to write questions and comments during the presentations, so that the presenters were not interrupted. Then between presentations, questions were selected from the Zoom chat panel  by the chairperson. Another nice feature is the the Zoom chat panel can be saved afterwards, so it acts as a transcript of the questions and comment, and lead to follow-up between the speakers and audience afterwards. Furthermore, the whole thing was recorded, audio and video, with the consent of the speakers, and awareness given to the audience of course!”

The event was the first in a series of EERA JP Wind &  SETWind thematic workshops, organized to help to define the “rolling agenda” of R&I priorities in the SET-Plan Implementation Plan for Offshore Wind. These workshops are free and open in order to give the opportunity to all members of the wind community to express their opinions and give their contributions.
